HOUSE OF REPS ADHOC COMMITTEE ON FACTS FINDING ON PLIGHT OF IDPS VISITS MAIDUGURI

The members House of Representatives Advoc Committee on the Humanitarian conditions of the of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were in Miduguri on.a fact finding visit to asses the condition of the IDPs, following the Moton moved by the the Member Representing Bama, Ngala, Kala- Balge Federal constituency on the worsening condition of the IDPs

The chairman of Committee, Hon. Igariwey Enwo while addressing the IDPs at the Gubio IDP camp said “we are here in the Gubio camp to see things for ourselves.. This camp is not where you suppose to be. Our concern is for you to return to your homes in a dignified manner.”

” we take your issues with all seriousness .our priority and concern is how to address the roots cause of the insurgency and other security challenges, so that you will go balck home and pick up the pieces of your lives “, the committee chairman .qadded.

He said ” the House has passed the legal.framework for the estsbliment of Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) .the commission will provide funding for the reconstruction and rebuilding of your communities and livelihood of the IDPs”

Hon Enwo said ” because you are IDPs, does not means you.are not Nigerians .as an IDPs you are entitlement to all what Nigerians are benefit . we wat to ensure your health, shelter ad Sanitation

Also speaking in local language, the member representing Kaga, Gubio and Magumeri Federal constituency, Hon.Usmsn Zannah urged the IDPs to continue to pray for the military and restoration of peace in the northeast.

He said ” we in the National Assembly are your representives, our priority is to see that you are better secured and served. So we ate working hard to see all what the military needed to end this war is apptoreted to them.’

Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, the Women leader of the Camp, Falmata Mele while thanking the committee the for the visit said ” our main problems in the camp is drugs and livelihood support. I urge you to come to our aid by providing us with needed skuls and drugs”.

While at the Operation Lafiya Dole, the chairman of the committee, Hon Enwo said ” we thank for your efforts and sacrifices in restoring peace back our land. The National Assembly is with you, Nigerian are with you, you.are doing a good job”

” though we are here on a fact finding on the plight of the IDPs, but the welfare and plight of the IDPs cannot be attend without the safety ad security of te IDPs. Ther is necexus bettweeb the welfare ofthe dPs and military that are fighting thee insurgency. We here to show our appreciation and solidarity to the military,. The House is ready to appropriate the needed fund to executive this war,” Hon Enwo said.

Responding. The theater commander Operationn Lafiys Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi said ‘ we are not going be discouragedl by what Boko Haram and their sympathizers are doing. No part of Northern Borno will allow to fall in the hands of Boko Haram. This is just a propaganda by the insurgents and their collaborators’.

“We will move from strength until we wipe out the remnant of insurgents. We are 100 percent loyal to constitutional authorities.. We are determined to end this war. With the support of the National Assembly and other institutions, we will continue to do better the Commander added.

FG commensurate with victims of Borno IDP fire outbreak, distributes relief materials to 9,678 survivors

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq has distributed food and non food items to 1,613 households affected by fire outbreak at the Muna Albadawi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri.

While commesurating with the victims at the Muna Albadawi IDP camp Maiduguri on Tuesday, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq distributed food and non food materials to 9,678 victims if the fire incident..

She said she was in Maiduguri at instance of President Muhammad Buhari to commensurate and sympathized with the people and government of Borno state, assuring that very soon Federal government will kick start the construction of 10,000 housing units in the state this year resettle the IDPs

In her welcome address, the Chairperson. Borno state Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said ” the camp has over 50,000 IDPs, where 1,613 households were affected by the fire incident with the total of 9,678 survivors.”

In his remarks, Governor Zulum said the relief materials is one of the largest interventions received from federal government and that the NEMA responded just 2 days after the incident occurred.

At Goverment House, Maiduguri, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk told Governor Babagana Zulum that she was in Maiduguri to commensurate with the people and Government of Borno state over the fire incident that occurred at the Muna Albadaei Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) that led to the destruction of many houses and goods.

Hajiya Faruq while sympathizing with Governor Zulun, said ” I am here in Maiduguri to commensurate with the people and Government of Borno state over the fire incident that occurred at the Muna Albadawi IDP camp that led to the destruction of many houses and goods”.

” The Muna Albadawi incident occurred just few days after similar incident occurred at Ngala IDP camp.. President Buhari 2 send his condolences to the people and government of Borno state”, the minister added.

She said “We commend NEMA for the relief materials and technical support. We are monitoring the situation closely with a view to evolving new strategy to avert future fire outbreaks”.

Hajiya Faruq said ” I also want to commend the NEMA and SEMA for quick response to the victims of the fire incident. The ministry is working with other stakeholders to kick start the construction of 10,000 housing units this year to fasten the post insutgency resettlement and economic recovery”.

Responding, Governor Babagana Zulum said the only solution to the incident of fire incident is the construction of permanent houses for the IDPs to go back to their communities, as the fire incident were caused mostly as a result of the houses were made of corn stock and the windy nature of the state.

“I commend you for your support to the people and government Borno state. You have visited Borno state over 20 times. You have visited Banki Bama Gwoza among other places. The Borno state government will partner and collaborate with you to ensure that all items brought is judiciously distributed”, the governor said.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Buratai has said that his troops of Operation Lafiya Dole under Operation Kantana Njim Lan which he personally led has neutralized 1015 Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists since he relocated to the Northeast on 4th April, 2020.

The COAS who disclosed this yesterday while Speaking at the Chief of Army Staff Eid-el-Fitr Sallah luncheon with recoperating troops held at the Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri said ” since when I arrived Maidugri on 4th April 2020, we have neutralized 1015 Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists in Talala, Pulka, Buni Gari, Dapchi, Gajiram, Gajiganna among others”.

” This years Ramadan fasting came few days after our Christian brothers finished their lengthing period. Our operation kantana Njim Lan were carried out within the holy period and we had a significant success. We had also taken time to reflect on our setbacks and repositioned our operations”, General Buratai said.

The Army Chief said ” the COVID-19 pandemic has affect the arrival of procurement of our weapons, but we have looked inward and developed our own Ezugwu, Conqueror, champion among other platforms we have enhanced our operations. We also established 4 special forces units which have quicken our Operations where we securely dealt with the Boko Harsm and ISWAP terrorist’s. Our intelligence unit has also arrested 84 Boko Haram/ ISWAP logistic suppliers and informats”

” I Want to also commends our Air and Naval components, as well as other sister security organizations for contributing to the success of our Operation in the theater. We are assuring you that we will continue to work together and are commitment to securing fatherland , the labour of our heroes past shall never be in.vein ” he added.

In.his goodwill message. the Borno state Governor. Professor Babagana Zulum said ” in the last two months the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole had tremendously succeeded in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast. I believe that Allah has answered our prayers and very soon the insurgents will be completely wiped out”.

” The people and government of Borno state have acknowledged the tremendous success achieved by our troops.. The people of Borno will forever remain indebted to the military for your sacrifice to keep our communities safe. The Borno state government will continue to support the Army within our limited resources”, Governor Zulum stated.

In his welcome address, the theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General, Faruk Yahaya said ” this ocassion is in honour of our gallant troops who were hospitalized in the fight insurgency and recoperating from the wound they sustained “.

“We want to thank, the Chief of Army Staff, and our Guest of honour, the Executive Governor of Borno state for finding time to grace this occasion. This occasion is a moral booster for the COAS to not only celebrate Sallah with his troooos but personally led his commanders to serve soldiers. Last year we were in Ngamdu with the COAS were we served soldiers and the troops were happy to be served by the COAS”, the theater commander said.

Gov. Buni Meet’s President Buhari on security

His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the executive Governor of Yobe state, has on Thursday 30/4/2020 met with President Muhamnadu Buhari at the Presidential villa Abuja, to discuss relevant issues concerning the consistent attack on Buni yadi town of and across the state in recent time and measures to curtail it.

The Governor said the meeting became Paramount as security is the first priority and development of a state and to also strengthen security in the state as we approach the farming season for people to cultivate their farms without challenges.

Governor Buni expressed the readiness of the state government to continue supporting security organizations in their efforts towards establishing sustainable peace and security in Yobe state.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that the ongoing fight against insurgency will be sustained to ensure total security in the affected states.

He called on the affected state governments and people to cooperate with security agencies operating in the region.
