Governor Babagaba Umara Zulum of Borno state has urged the Military and Defense hierarchy to return people back to liberated communities, reopen roads and markets for peace to fully return back to the state and Northeast regoing in general.

The governor disclosed this when the minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) led the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar and other top military officers paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Maiduguri, yesterday.

He said that for peace and normalcy to return to the Northern Borno and the Northeast people must be allow to go back to their communities and economic and commercial activities be allowed to take place.

” we have to understand the nexus between peace and develooment. We have to understand the root cause of Boko Haram which are poverty , unemployment and illiteracy. They are over 400 hundred thoussnd people living in IDPs camps in Monguno, Dikwa, Damasak among others. They poised a great threat to our peace process, because they can be recruited by the insurgents. we must allow them to go back to their communities and must be allow to carry out their economic and commercial activities “, the governor added.

He said “. For peace to return back to the fringes of Lake Chad region, we must allow people to return back to Baga, Kukawa, kross Kauwa and economic and commercial activities be allow to strive,” he added.
He also.urged the military to liberate Abadam, Mallam Fatori, among other communities around the friges of the Lake Chad.

Prof. Zulum said ” most of our markets are closed in the name of security, our cattle markets are closed, our roads are closed. We should not allow this to continue, I call on the minister and the military to reopen our roads , reopen Maiduguri, Damboa and Biu road..We should not allow Just because insurgents attack on a road, the road are been closed. This is unacceptable, we should build resilience, if we really want to end Boko Haram”

” We have discussed with the military and very soon we are going to reopen Maiduguri-Damboa and Biu riad. I need your clearance I am going to travel to Dsmboa, Biu and I am going to follow this road with or without security. It is only God that gives and take life” the governor stressed

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister for Defense, the service Chiefs and other security agencies for their commitment to end Boko Haram, Governor Zulum promised to continue to support them and urged the military to clear the Tumbus (islands) and the Sambisa forest.,.

Earlier, the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi said ” I am in Borno to see our troops and also meet with Chadian military officials. I am glad to report to you that the synergy between our soldiers and the Chadian troops is yielding results..”

“I want to testify to you that the synergy is getting us better results. We are working hard to see the end of insurgency. The Federal government is doing its best to see it deployed the needed resources to ensure that we end this insurgency once and for all. I want to assure the people of Borno state that very soon peace will return to the state and the region in general “, the minister said

Gen. Magashi also commended the Borno state governor for his continued support to the military to see to the end of Boko Haram and assured of continued ciirdial relationship.

The theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General. Olusegun Adeniyi has said that they are committed more than ever before to end Boko Haram, assuring Nigerians that Boko Haram insurgency will soon be a thing of the past,

Speaking at the occasion of the 7 Division end of the year 2019 party and West African Social Activities (WASA) held at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, yesterday, General Adeniyi said “there is national and collective will to end Boko Haram”

Boko Haram insurgency is political, trying to claim a phantom caliphate. This their dream will fail. We will not allow them to occupy an inch. We from the military, the legislature, international communities are committed and speaking with one voice and Boko Haram will soon end”, the theater commander added.

He said ” I assured Nigerian that the insurgency will soon end . Tell Shekau and Albarnawi that we will come after them.. Our troops are ever ready to end this insurgency, so that we will go back to our barracks.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, Brigadier General Abdul Ibrahim’ said ” the WASA was introduced by the colonial West African Frontier Force to celebrate and mark end of every operational and ursher in the new year’.

He said ‘ today as we mark the 2019 end of year party and WASA, it gives us another opportunity to be with our families to showcase our cultural heritage, wine and dance after a success operational year 2019 and also to mark the beginning of the year 2020″.

While assuring the Federal Government of their continued loyalty and commitment to end insurgency, General Ibrahim said ” I call on the civil populace to join hand with the military to end this insurgency.The year 2020 we started in good footing and by the grace of God we will end insurgency”

He prayed to God to grant the departed colleagues an eternal rest and their families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost, assuring that the military will continue to be with their families.

In his vote of thanks, the chairman organising Committee , who is also the Chief of Staff of the Division, Brigadier General I Ottu thanked the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Tukur Buratai, the theater Commander. Major General Adeniyi and the GOC for their vision, direction and guidance in the ongoing operations and thanked all those that honored their invitation..

QThe event also witnessed cultural display, comedy, presentation of awards to the outstanding soldiers and commanders and refreshments.

The Federal Government High powered delegation was in Auno town to comesurate and sympathize with people over the last Sunday Boko Haram attacked that led to the death of over 30 people, and18 vehicles burnt down .

The relegation led by.the minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk said “we are here on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to sympathize and comesuraye with you over the Boko Haram attack and also to assess the level of destruction with a view to assist you”.

” The Federal government is doing everything possible to and this decade long insurgency.. The federal government will InshaAllah assist you mote especially, the victims of last Sunday attack to pick up the pieces of you lived”, She added.

Earlier speaking, the Managing Director of the Northeast Development Commission, Dr. Mohammed Alkali said ” today we came here with the minister for Humanitarian Affairs to condole and sympathise with you. The federal government is going to assist you”.

He said ” yesterday President Buhari was here in Maiduguri to sympathize with you and today we are here to deliver you the message of the president “.

Also speaking, the chairman of the NEDC, Major General Paul Tatfa (rtd) said ” I dont have much to say since President Bhwri was in Maiduguri yesterday whete condole with the Shehu and people of Borno state . what has happened has happened. We wsnt you to take it as destined by God.but we prayed that it will not acccure again. ”

While welcoming the minister, the chairperson,of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said “we thank President Buhari and the minister for the visit and their concern.

In.his votes of thanks, the District Head of Auno. Alhsji Abba Umar while thanking the federal government for the visit said ” in the last one months Boko. Haram attack Auno 6 times. We call on the Federal government to deploy more troops to protect us “..

” I was there when President Buhari came yesterday. We the people of Auno are greatful to the president for the visit,” he added.

The delegates includes, the chairman of NEDC MD NEDC among other tops officials of the ministry of Humanitarian Affair’s, Disaster Management and Social development.

The commander Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Bamidele Shafa has appealed to the former Boko Haram members to call on their ex-colleagues to laydown their arms and come out to use the opportunity given to them by the Operation Safe Corridor to surrender, so that peace will reign in the Northeast.”

General Shafa was in Borno state to access the level of acceptance of the repentant insurgents by their communites, said “I was briefed by your respective community leaders and members. I am happy to hear that your doing well and nobody rejected you or stigmatize you”.

Addressing the repentant Boko Haram at the Rehabilitation Centre Maiduguri yesterday, General Shafa said “I urge you to call on your former colleagues there in the bush to come out and laydown their arms at any military formations across the theater as the safe corridor opportunity is there for them. Nobody will kill of harm them”.

” I want you to convinced them that you were well taking care off, deradicalized and train in various skills by the military. so that they will leave happily love with their families”, he added.

General Shafa said ” since 2016 when Operation Safe corridor was launched . we have since than rehabilitated and deradicalize many ex Boko Haram members and handed them over to their respective state governments for reintegration back to society. We have been to Bama and saw that the ex-insurgents members are doing well. We will also visit Gwoza and Damboa local government to see how they are been accepted By their communities”

Earlier speaking., the Borno state commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo said ” we are happy for the visit. I want to tell you all the ex Boko Haram members are doing well in their respective communities. Because their communities leaders and members are appreciating their behaviours “.

” The Borno state government will continue to partner with the Operation Safe corridor, UNICEF and other humanitarian partners for sustainable peace in the Northeast and country in general”, she added.

Hajiya Zuwaura said ” so far the Borno state government has received 136 repentant Boko Haram members. Some of them have since been reintegrated into their respective communities, while others are still under going rehabilitation In this center.”.

Speaking on behalf of the ex Boko Haram members, Bulama Mohammed said ” we thanked the federal government and the Operation Safe Corridor for the opportunity to become good citizens again . When we were in the bush I don’t think, I would have the opportunity to even come near a soldier but today I have benn taking good care of by a soldier. We even shock hand and play togethe with soldiers”.

He said ” I want to use this opportunity to call on our former colleagues there in the bush to come out and laydiwn their arms as you will be taking good care by the military. “.
