To rejuvinate the comatose economy of the state destroyed by the decade long Boko Haram insurgency, the Borno state government in partbership with the Bank of Industry have distrursed N1 billion to 12 traders union and associations comprises of 15, 861 beneficiaries

Flagging off the disbursement at the Multi Purpose Hall of Government House, Maiduguri on Wednesday, the Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum said ” the credit facility is aimed at reviving business activities in Borno state, encouraging employment opportunities by the private sector and expanding the horizon as well as scope of sources of income of our teaming unemployed youths”

“Today 15, 861 individuals who are members of 12 trade unions and associations are expected to benefit from this disbursement amounting to N994,930,000,00. This loan is interest free and is payable in 4 years with moratorium period of 6 months within which bussineses are expected to pick up and generate profit”, the governor stressed.

He announced that any individual who is able to settle the disbursed amount within the stipulated time will enjoyed 50 percent waiver and shall automatically qualify for another loan, adding that the Borno state government in its commitment to the empowerment of women and youths is presently in a high level talks with the Central Bank, African Development Bank. Islamic Bank and World Bank to create more windows of opportunities to small and medium scale entrepreneurs to empower them inline with practices for the overall benefits of the oeope of the state..

He said ” the loan will also prepare our small and medium scale business operators for financial inclusion by making them bankable and inculcating into them the culture of using banks as ssources of finance “.

He said his administration is committed to creating more opportunities to the people of the state., with a view to expanding sources of their income, especially women and the teaming unemployed youths and reduced the rate of unemployment indices to the bearest minimum in the state in line with his administration’s recovery, and . resettlement programme.

Earlier the Borno state commissioner for Trade and investment. Hon Yerima Kareto said ” . the Bank of Industry has partnered with the Borno state government through Governor Zulum to help and recapitalised this important sector by earmarking N2 billion interest free Loan with a tenure of 4 years and a moratorium period of 6 months in his magnamity and as a display of ultra like for the people “.

” This gathering is for the flagging off of 50 percent of the N2 billion to 15,861 beneficiaries while the remaining 50 percent is already in advanced stage for the economic recovery of the state”, he added

The commissioner said ” out of the 12 trade unions and associations, Monday market traders Associated got the lion share of over ,N450 million, followed by Babban Layi textile Association with over N250 million and the least is barracks women association with over N7 million. The highest individual beneficiary will get N1.5 million while the least is to get N30,000.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry represented by the Manager Bank of Industry. Maiduguri office, Alhaji Maina Kamsalem said ” the Northeast and Borno state in particular has suffered a lot of destruction by the decade long insurgency and there is need to revive the economy and ensure sustainable economic recovery, more especially women and youths, hence the partnership between the bank and Botno state government to rejuvenate the economy “.

” Borno state is the nerve centre of the Northeast commercial activities and the step taken by the Borno state government will in no small measure jump start the economy of the region. I urge the beneficiaries to utilized the loan and pay back on time so that others will benefit “, he further stressed.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the chairman Babban Layi Textile traders Association, Professor Mustapha Kokori said ‘ “we thank the Governor and the Bank of Industry for the loan. This loan will serve as catapult for the economic recovery of the state. We also assured you that we will judiciously utilize the money to move our business forward.’

The Chief of Army Staff
Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai has Saturday inspected ongoing projects and facilities at Ngamdu army super camp.

Buratai said the visit was part of his continuation operational tour to the north east theater of Operation.

The Army chief was at Ngamdu today the 26 of September 2020, where he inspected ongoing construction and renovation projects as well as facilities in the camp.

He equally used the opportunity to assess the overall operational readiness of the camp.

“The Chief of Army staff was accompanied by the Chief of Training and Operations Army Maj Gen Nuhu Angbazo, the Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE Maj Gen Faruk Yahaiya, Chief of Military Intelligence Maj Gen SA Adebayo, Acting Provost Marshall Army Brig Gen Hussain Ahmed and Commander Sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE Brig Gen OO Oluyede among other senior army officers”

Again, members of the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP), Boko Haram fighters have again abducted two workers along Maiduguri-Damasak road, on their way to Damasak to construct shelter for the Nigerian refugees returning from Diffa province in Niger Republic back to their ancestral homes.

The two abductees in a separate video clips released by the insurgents, appealed to the Borno state Governor, Professor, Babagana Zulum and the state Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Engineer, Mustapha Gubio to come to their rescue.

“My name is lawan modu karsami
I worked with Nganzai LGA, I am a project Engineer attached to construction site of Shelter in Damasak, the project for Nigerian refugees returning back to Damasak. We were captured by the Khailafa army and we are now in hostage with them”, Modu Karsami said.

He appealed to the commissioner for RRR, Engr Mustapha Gubio and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to cometheir rescue

Also speaking Ibrahim Musa while appealing to the government to come to his rescue said ” I am Ibrahim Musa a carpenter, we were captured by the Army of Khaliffa along Maiduguri-Damasak road on our way to Damasak to construct a shelter to the returning IDPs. “

” I appeal to the Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum and the commissioner of RRR to come to our rescue”, he added.

Nigerian Army mourns its commander death as a result of Boko Haram ambush

The Nigerian Army and the Operation Lafiya Dole have lost a gallant commander in a Boko Haram ambushed after he led a successful clearance operation again at Boko Haram insurgents along Sabon Gari Wajirako axis in Damboa local government area of Borno state.

The Operation Lafiya Dole in a statement issued by ihe Deputy Director Army Public Relations ( DDAPR), spokesman, Col. Ado Isa said. “Operation LAFIYA DOLE wishes to intimate the general public of the demise of one of our gallant and finest war heroes Col DC Bako.”.

” It could be recalled that the professional, gallant senior officer who always led from the front and a patriotic Nigerian, led a patrol to clear Boko Haram Terrorists from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa when his patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020. Under his able leadership, the troops cleared the ambush resulting to the killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and equipment,” the statement added.

The Army said “Sadly however, he was wounded in action and immediately evacuated by the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE to the 7 Division Hospital at Maimalari Cantonment. The late senior officer was recuperating well after successful operation at the hospital, in good spirit and also said his prayers in the early hours of this morning before his sad passing on at the hospital. May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest. Ameen. “

While comesurating with the bereaved family, the troops of the Operation Lafiya dole,, the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai on behalf of himself, gallant troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE and indeed well meaning Nigerians expressed heartfelt condolences to his esteemed family..

“We are most grateful for his contributions and sacrifices to the mother land. May God grant eternal rest to the gentle soul of Col DC Bako and the souls of all Nigerian Army officers and soldiers who paid the supreme prize in the defence of our father land,” General Buratai quoted to have said.
