2023: APC vs PDP
By Yusuf Ali
Pls do the arithmetics. Its a mark of political sagacity to be able to mark out the political arithmetic and get the answers. Politics is all about numbers, power and incumbency factors works even in US elections.
APC is a successful North/South political alliance, the Buhari – Tinubu – Hausa – Fulani – Yoruba enterprise that swept PDP out of power in 2015 and won again in 2019. Today, APC has grown to become a national party of the progressives. APC is no match to PDP. And Asiwaju is no match to Atiku.
After Buhari’s 8 years, the APC leaders decided to zone the APC Ticket to South in the interests of national stability peace and unity. The APC’s strong bond still exists. A working political marriage of some sort.
The 12 members of the APC Northern Governors Ganduje of Kano, Badaru of Jigawa, Zulum of Borno, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Inuwa of Gombe, Masari of Katsina, Matawalle of Zamfara, Abdulrasak of Kwara, El-Rufai of Kaduna, Bagudu of Kebbi, Lalong of Plateau, Bello of Kogi have all declared their support for Tinubu.
The South-West APC have unanimously supported Tinubu and promised 90% of region’s votes and declared no go areas for the PDP. The South West is the most qualified electoral zone in the Southern part of Nigeria. The
APC controls 5 out of 6 States in the South.
Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a strong formidable and Peter Obi breakaway would reduce PDP votes making Atiku electorally vulnerable leading to woeful defeat. As it is, there is no national platform, coalition and movement for the PDP to win.
APC is a governing party. It controls power at the center. It has 22 powerful sitting governors. PDP has 14. The power of incumbency for the President and Governors is very strong in Nigeria. Ordinarily, the possibility PDP can win more extra states before 2023 to upset APC is unrealistic.
Talking about numbers. Yes. There is strength in numbers. The APC can boast of its 42 million registered members with PVC. With Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the ballot, the APC would rally round to best bring the numbers like Buhari to defeat Atiku.
This is apart from the fact that Tinubu as a successful politician has wide network of political associates, friends and supporters couple with his deep pocket, Tinubu has already mobilized a national movement. He has been accepted across the broad spectrum of Nigerian politics, politicians and practitioners.
The outcome of the successful APC Special Convention and Presidential Primary where all the 23 Aspirants have backed Asiwaju’s Ticket to ensure victory has further proved that APC is solid moving forward 2023. No shaking.
If anybody thinks that PDP/Atiku will defeat APC with such a narrow based is living in a cloud cuckoo land.
