2023 Elections Campaigns Borno Police Commissioner Assures Neutrality, Held Meeting With Area Commanders, DPOs, Head of Departments To Strategize

As public political campaigns commenced Wednesday, following the lifting the ban on 2923 political campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the Borno state Police Command has held meeting with all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and head of departments to strategize on effective and hitch free electioneering campaign and security coverage.
to provide adequate security coverage and ensure neutrality to all political parties under their areas of responsibilities.
Speaking at the Commissioner of Police’s monthly meeting with Area Commanders, Head of Departments and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), conference held at the Police headquarters, Maiduguri on Wednesday, the ,Police commissioner, CP Abdu Umar directed the Area Commanders , and DPOs to provide adequate security coverage and ensure neutrality to all political parties under their areas of responsibilities.

” The section 94(1) of the 2022 Electoral Act made it possible for the INEC to today, officially commence public campaign, and the campaign will manifest a lot security concern, To achieve our election security mandate, we have to be on our Oars to achieve hitch free election, before, during and after the 2023 general elections “, CP Umar said.
He said the police has deployed more policemen to the local government areas in additional to that 1,800 volunteer constables have also local government councils to ensure hutch free elections.
CP Umar said ” I hereby directed you to go back to your respective Commands and departments and have similar meetings with the chairmen of your LGAs traditional and religious leaders, as well as political parties with a view to have a smooth electioneering campaigns”.
He assured that the police will continue to remain apolitical in discharge of their duties and urged all political parties to write to police whenever they have any political rally so that they will have a schedules to avoid clashing with other parties”
He commended the media for giving the command effective coverage and urged then to always consider national interests in their reportage, more especially as the 2023 electioneering campaign commences.
On the recent attacks in the state, the CP said there was an attack on Rapid Response Squads (RRS) and CJTF vehicles in Benesheik sphere 3 persons were killed 3 vehicles destroyed and CJTF office burnt.
Similarly, the insurgents attacked Gubio town where they abducted some police and CJTF personnel but due to qyucj response of the air component of Operation Hadin Kai all the personnel were rescued unhurt.
