Adamawa APC And its Many Obstacles Ahead of 2023 Elections
From Umar Dankano, Yola.
There are indications that the aftermath of the party primary elections of the All Progressives Congress,APC in Adamawa state is still hurting the party in different directions with many unpleasant developments raising their ugly heads in the political voyage of the party facing 2023 general elections by the corner.
Many aspirants, who contested but lost at the party’s primaries were unhappy with the procedures adopted in the conduct of the exercise accusing the party’s leadership under former sacked state chairman, Ibrahim Bilal of alleged irregularities and compromise A reason believed to have consumed him unceremoniously.
The emergence of the Deputy Chairman of the party, Mr. Samaila Tadawus as the new captain of the ship in ‘Acting’ capacity in September 2022 rekindled the hopes of the party membership and stakeholders especially with the maiden address by him (Tadawus)Â promising to heal the wounds through open-door policy so that the progressives can put the past behind and forge ahead with a view to wrestle power from ruling PDPÂ come 2023 elections.
But,the judgement on the party’s primaries by Justice Abdulaziz Anka of the Federal high court Yola in a suit between Mal.Nuhu Ribadu and Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani where the later (Ribadu) challenged her emergence as the governorship standard flag bearer of the APC in Adamawa state on 13th October, 2022.
The nullification of the primary election rendered the party with no candidate for 2023 gubernatorial election hence created more crisis for the party.
With about 120 days to 2023 general elections, APC in Adamawa is still battling with in-house quarrels ranging from who is the party’s candidate and “voluntary ” resignations of state exco members including the party’s women-leader Hajiya Hauwa Koma and Vice Chairman, Southern Zone, Ahmed Bako Gamu respectively.
Findings by this reporter revealed that, there is more to which the eyes can see for the resignation abruptly though both officials claimed in their separate letters of resignation submitted to the party which were privy to the media that their actions were both “personal”as political pundits viewed this scenario differently.
Some are of the believe that, the roles played by them in supporting the sacked chairman (Bilal) for alleged gross misconduct, maladministration, corruption and highhandedness during his sway as leader of the party are the major cause of their predicaments.
However, the resigned woman leader, Hauwa Kowa who served for 6 years has been accused to be part of those loyalists to Senator Binani who staged managed protests by women against the court ruling against Binani’s candidature across the state which is being seen as contempt of court.
Another political school of thought had it that, the duo who happened to come from Jada and Ganye local government areas under southern zone in the political landscape of the state betrayed their godfather in person of Alhaji Sadiq Kalu for siding with the former removed chairman, Bilal despite several warnings by him. So he vehemently stood his ground as a political heavyweight from the zone that they must go or be impeached forcefully.
Even though, the Acting Chairman, Ismaila Tadawus’s leadership has already set up reconciliation committees at the state and federal levels being headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF Boss Mustapha so that amicable resolutions can be reached by aggrieved members of the party before 2023 elections.
In the defense of their action of forming the reconciliation committees,Publicity secretary of the party, Muhammad Abdullahi told the media that the leadership recently visited most the party’s stakeholders in Abuja and the state with a view to finding a lasting solution that will make the party work as a family so as to attain victory in the forthcoming polls.
Bearing in mind on the precarious situation of the party, a stakeholder and former Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Hon. Ahmad Sajoh opined that reconciliation is a good step in human interactions but it should be done with openness, honesty and sincerity of purpose.
Despite efforts being put in place to right the wrongs as an opposition party in the state, the ruling party,PDP is celebrating the crisis seeing the APC as a sinking ship according her additional opportunity to clench back to power smoothly but only time shall tell.
