Adamawa Assembly Suspends Two Lawmakers Over defection.
From Umar Dankano, Yola.
The Adamawa State House of Assembly has suspended the members representing Song and Jada Mbulo constituencies, Hon. Simon Isa and Hon. Hamman Tukur Yettisuri, for 3 months.
Their suspension followed a constitutional matter raised by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo(Numan), who informed the Assembly about the duo defection to New Nigeria people’s party, NNPP.
At a plenary session in Yola Wednesday Hon. Mackondo alerted the lawmakers present that, the affected legislators were elected under the platform of the PDP but cross carpeted to other political party saying that their seats ought to be declared vacant based on the provision of the constitution.
He further confirm to the house that their names appeared as candidates for Fufore/Song and Mayo Belwa, Jada, Ganye and Toungo Federal Constituencies under NNPP for the forthcoming 2023 elections.
Announcing the suspension, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, pronounced that the two lawmakers are suspended for 3 months pending when they formalise their defection.
Some political pundits expressed dismay over the suspension of lawmakers accusing the leadership of the house of selective treatment on members defection as those who defect from other parties in to ruling PDP are welcome without molestation while any one changing tent from PDP are crucified politically in the state.
