Adamawa workers groan over delay in April salary

By Adamu Mohammed Dodo, Yola

Adamawa state civil servants are groaning over delay in the payment of April salaries, saying that the state government has started drifting away from her promises.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said to be upholding the philosophy of upgrading by restructuring the civil service in Adamawa state has in July, 2019 declared that henceforth, workers would be enjoying their salaries from 24th to 25th of every month, whether or not there was allocation from the Federation Account.

The governor said this at the banquet hall of the government house in Yola, while receiving the SDP members who who could not make good remaining in opposition party, defected to the ruling PDP in the state.

The governor was commended for keeping to the promise when most of the times salaries were paid at least from the 22nd of every month.

Groaning however started over the presumed delay in payment of salary for the month of March, 2021, which was not started as early as 22nd. The Honourable Commissioner of Information, Dr. Umar Garba Pella would have to clear the air that there has not been any delay in payment of salary resulting from the freezing of state government’s account as speculated.

Workers started receiving salary alerts on the 25th of the month. However, there have been issues, which could have led to the delay in the payment of some staffs, especially with the post primary schools; some of them are heard saying that they are not paid their March salaries to this day.

This is however subject to investigation.

Whatever could have caused the delay in the payment of April salaries, the civil servants would not want to accommodate as an excuse because they were initially assured that they would be receiving their salaries from 24th to 25th of every month, whether or not there was allocation from the Federation Account.

Today is April 28, as at now, there is no report of any state government worker receiving salary alert. Story could change later in the day.

The workers also prayed that it would not be an isolated kind of payments because it is painful if all workers are not paid their salaries almost at the same time.

It is also unlikely that May salaries will be paid in the second week of the month in preparation for Sallah festivities; workers are advised to be wise in spending.
