Army honours officers and soldiers who distinguish themselves in the war against Boko. Haram

In its efforts to recognize hardworking and commitment, the Nigerian Army has presented medals of Award to the officers and soldiers of the Operation Lafiya Dole for their oustsnding performance in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the theater.

Speaking at the Nigerian Army Medals Awards 2019 held in Gwoza, the headquarters of Gwoza local goverment area of Borno state on Monday, the Minister of Defense, Major General Salihi Magashi (Rtd) said “I urge all the recipients of the award to continue to work hard, as victory is surely coming in no  distance time ”

The minister who was represented by the the Director Army Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Mr. Sunday Attah said ” Let me express my appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General, Tukur Buratai for disseminating the insurgents and for the recignition of the gallantry and hardworking in the fight against insurgency”.

Also speaking, the Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum said “It is gladdening to mention that the efforts of troops in Operation LAFIYA DOLE has provided enabling environment and support upon which the state government activities are thriving. I urge you all not to relent in your efforts until Borno State and the entire North East are secured.”.

“Let me restate the commitment of this administration to support troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE with logistics within the available resources of the state to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency. We shall continue to strengthen the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and the hunters to better support the efforts of troops.”, the governor added.

In his remarks. The Chief of Army Staff, ( COAS) Lt General Tukur Buratai said ” it is my honour to be with you here in Gwoza for Operation Lafiya Dole Medal 2019 . This occasion is to.bestowed .awards on.you for your sacrufues and service to your fatherland’.

Lt General Buratai said ” the awardwhich is carried out annually is to cellebrate our sucess and also assess our oerformance with a view to restrategizr in the coming year. Thete is no.doubt, as a result of your commitment in the theater we are going to revognize some officers and soldiers to spur you to do more. I want to assure you that your welfare and that your families in the barrack will remain our priority”.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Senator, Mohammed Ndume said “I want to thank you for for librating my home town Gwoza, the people of Gwoza will not continue to thank you but pray that God will continue to bring more of such awards.. I also urge the COAS to give special promotions to the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole for their sacrifices and hardworking”.

Senator Ndume who is also the Senator representing Southern Borno at the National Assembly said “I will like to use this opportunity to urge the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security to clear the Mandara mountain, Ngoshe, Ashigashiya, Madubbe, Bitta among other major villages in Gwoza for our people to go.back home”.

Also commenting, the chairman House Committee on.Army. Hon. abdurrazak Namdas assured the Army that the House is strongly behind them and that they will do everything possible to ensure the Army discharges it duties professionally and responsive.

Service chiefs arrived Maiduguri in preparation to President Buhar’ visit to Borno

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS),General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Arny Staff ( COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya,, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal, Isiaka Anao Chief of Naval , (CNS), Auwal Gambo Staff, Rear Admiral and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba Alkali were in Maiduguri to discuss security situation in the Northeast. in preparation to the President Muhammadu Buhari visit to Borno

On arrrival of the service Chiefs they proceeded straight to the headquarters Joint Tasks force Operation Hadin Kai where they went into closed door meeting that lasted for over 2 hours.

The President during the visit is expected to address the troops of Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari Cantonment

Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after the close door meeting, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor said assured Nigerians that the military is determined to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

The reason why we are here to re-strategize and address the problems facing the troops

Chief of Defence Staff led Service Chiefs and Inspector General of Police to headquarters Theatre Command ahead of President Buhari’s visit.

The CDS said their visit to the Theatre is to strategize and address the security problems facing the people of the Northeast and the entire country, adding that ,the greatest challenge before the military and other security agencies is how to restore peace in the entire region, and stressed the need for collaborative effort to end the crisis.

In welcome address, before the close door session,, the acting Theatre Commander Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai Major General Felix Omoigui said that the Theatre had recorded numerous success which led to economic activities to thrive in many liberated areas of the northeast.

The Chief of Defence Staff was accompanied on the visit by Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouq Yahaya, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Auwal Gambo, Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Service Headquarters.

Just in: Former special adviser to president Jonathan, Ali Gulak assassinated

Former special adviser to president Goodluck Jonathan on politics, Ali Gulak has reportedly been assassinated by unknown gunmen in Owerri, the capital of IMO State.

Confirming the sad incident to our reporter, a former classmate of the slain politician who is also a PDP stalwart in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo said, “I just confirmed the sad and gruesome murder of my friend and classmate, the former special adviser political to president Goodluck Jonathan.”

According to Ardo, Gulak was assassinated in the night by yet to be identified gunmen in Owerri.

Gulak was a one time speaker of Adamawa State house of assembly and former special assistant to the vice president.

Army confirms death of COAS, General Attaihiru in Kaduna plane crash

The Nigerian Army has on Fruday confirmed the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Ibrahim Atahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna .

The Army in a statement signed by its Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said.

Army Confirms death of COAS, Lt. Gen Attahiru in Plane Crash,he said ” the Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing away of its Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru . The sad event occurred following an air crash in Kaduna which also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew”

The statement said “the COAS was en-route Kaduna from Abuja on Friday, 21 May, 2021 when the unfortunate incident happened.”

“Details of the sad incident and burial arrangements will be communicated soon”, General yerima added.
