Borno.Governor commends Igbo spare traders for not running during the peak of insurgency

As they called on Borno government to construct Cargo Airport for the movement of goods, boost IGR

The Spare parts traders Association in Borno state has called on the Borno state government to construct a cargo Airport in Maiduguri to ease their movement of goods from Lagos to Maiduguri which will not only assist them but the entire business community in the state .

The President General of the Automobile Spare parts traders, Mr. Anthony Okwonkwo who made the call when Governor Zulum visited the Spare parts Market. Maiduguri on Tuesday to inspect the newly reconstruct Bola Road,.

Mr. Okwonko while commending the governor for reconstructing the road said l” the. Cargo airport will not only assist us (the spare part traders) but the entire business community in the state, as well as the state government, because we will not only move our goods easily but boost the internal revenue generation of the state, as Borno borders Cameroon, Niger and Chad Republic and also a business route to Central African countries”,

He commended the Borno state government for reconstructing the road within the market, stressing that the road will in no small measure ease the difficulty they faced and their costomers, more especially during the rainy season.

Responding, Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum who promised to look into their request, extolled automobile spare-parts’ traders, mostly Igbos, for their courage in not running away from Borno State and remaining in business despite the security threat poised by Boko Haram insurgency since 2009.

Governor Zulum said “for the last one decade you have remained firm, and you have been with us all the time. Even, during the peak of the insurgency, even when our people are leaving the state. You people have been selling spare parts here”

“The Igbo communities that are doing their businesses here are our brothers. Therefore, very soon Government of Borno State will provide financial assistance to you” Zulum said

The governor was in the area to inspect the recently constructed roads in the market to end difficulties faced by the traders and their customers.

The Governor, trekked for 30 minutes through the market, assured the Igbo traders that his administration would soon come up with a package to boost their business in the state.and charged the traders and others to maintain good hygiene of their environment.

The Governor continued his trek to the state pensions’ office where he inspected ongoing renovation work and directed the Permanent Secretary in charge of pensions to relocate after the work is completed to enable pensioners have easy access to the authorities.

Governor Zulum then moved to inspect progress of work at a 50-bed maternity hospital at Abbaganaram community, also in Maiduguri.

Zulum also traversed through the state capital interacting with residents with a view to finding solutions to their problems.

While responding to a community request at Kofa Biyu area, the Governor ordered the remodeling of a traditional Islamic School area

Before ending his community interactions, Zulum attended to different groups of physically challenged persons at locations he visited within the capital.

A member, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Joy Emordi, today defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, formally received the senator in a brief ceremony in Abuja.

Sen. Emordi, said she was convinced that the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the APC.

She described the APC leadership as sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for the future generation.

The legislator assured the party of her loyalty and her supporters to the party “l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party.”

Sen. Emordi said “the APC led federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC.”

The Chairman CECPC Mai Mala Buni, expressed delight with the decision taken by the board member to contribute to the unity of the country.

“There is need for us to join hands for the political stability and national unity of our dear country” he said.

Governor Buni said the coming of Sen. Emordi and other prominent politicians from the South East into the APC will promote national unity.

“The South east is a strong political block and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will mo doubt add to national cohesion ” the Chairman added.

The All Progressive Congress ( APC) in Borno state has peacefully held its ward congresses, as Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state joined others members of his ward , Mafa Central ward of Mafa local government area of Borno state where they elected 27 member ward executives of the party inline with the ongoing ward, local government and state congresses of the party

Addressing the delegates befoe throwing the question, the chairman of the APC Congress committee in Borno state, who is also former Deputy Governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Uba Amadu said ” we are here in Mafa on behalf of APC national headquarters, Abuja to witnessed and monitor the ward congress of our party. We are here to ensure that the congress were conducted in accordance with our party constitution”.

” Our party constitution has allow that the congresses should be done in 3 ways that is, through direct and indirect process, as well as consensus, It could be recalled that the state statutory delegates had last Wednesday agreed that Borno state has opted for consensus.. Today we are here to ensure that what you agreed on is implemented to the later.” Alhaji Anadu added

Those unanimously affirmed through voice votes, as the 27 man Executive of the Mafa central ward of the Mafa local government area were, Alhaji Ali chori, as chairman, Alh Gado Ka’ana as Vice chairman, Alhaji Gada sarki as secretary, Alhaji Babagana Kachalla, treasurer among others executives of the ward.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Mafa, shorty after the exercise , Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state called on the APC members in the state to conduct themselves peacefully and be united for the progress of the party, state and the country at large..

“I want to use this opportunity to thank you for conducting yourselves peacefully, we want to also thank the national , state and local government committee for ensuring peaceful congress in Mafa central my ward”, Zulum.

He said ” I want to assure you that APC administration in Borno state under my leadership will continue to provide more dividends of democracy to our people. We are going to establish additional secondary school here in Mafa for our children to go to school, we are also going to train our youths across all wards of the local government, so that they will be engaged “.

As at the time of filing in this reports the ward congresses were going on simultaneously and peacefully in Biu and Hawul local government, as well as other wards across the state

APC Congress: Buni calls for peaceful exercise, warns against sabotage

As the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, warms up for its ward Congress on Saturday, the Chairman Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has enjoined party stakeholders and members to conduct the exercise peacefully.

In a statement signed Friday night by his Director-General on media and publicity, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni called on officials conducting the Congress to be fair and objective to all candidates contesting the election.

“As stakeholders of the party, we have a great responsibility to make the ward Congress in all the participating states successful.

“We should endeavour to place the party and members interest above personal interests,” Buni charged.

The chairman warned that the party would not hesitate to take decisive measures against anyone who deliberately sabotaged the Congress.

“We have come a long way repositioning the party, we have reconciled many groups and individuals, we must not allow personal interests in this election to divide us and draw us back,” he advised.

He expressed the commitment of the committee to entrench internal democracy and respect for the People’s choice.

Governor Buni further said adequate arrangements had been made by the party to conduct successful and acceptable congresses across the country.
