COAS pays maiden visit to Operation Hadin Kai theater, assures wounded troops of adequate medical care

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Major General Faruk Yahaya has paid a first official visit to the Theatre Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) to assess the operational and welfare state of the troops

During the visit to the theater, General Yahaya also visited the 7 Division hospital, where he assured the wounded troops of adequate medical care and support in the ongoing counter insurgency operations.

The COAS gave the assurances yesterday when he visited the 7 Division Hospital and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to commiserate with the sick and wounded in action troops recuperating at the medical facilities.

While at the hospital, the COAS who prayed for their speedy recovery also took time to interact with the soldiers and assured them of proper medical care and welfare, adding that their medical care is of utmost importance to him .

He told them that the nation is indeed proud of their selfless service and sacrifices towards restoring peace to the North East region.

Meanwhile,, the COAS also at the the Mechanical Repair Group to inspect the ongoing repairs and refurbishment of vehicles at the workshop through the use of local resources and commended the resilience and ingenuity of the engineers and technicians in fixing most of the vehicles that were hitherto classified as ‘beyond local repairs’.

Earlier, the new Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa briefed the COAS on the operational situation in the Theatre and assured the COAS that all efforts will be geared towards bringing the war against terrorism to a decisive end..

The COAS appreciated the commitment and selflessness of the troops in the Theatre and implored them to exhibit a high level of professionalism and ensure that all remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists are neutralised.

His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, The Executive Governor of Yobe state, who is also the national caretaker chairman of the ruling All progressive congress (APC) has made it clearly that the policies and programmes of his administration will continue to concentrate on issues that have positive impact on the lives of the people and to develop the state..

He stated this today when he received in audience members of the Buni/Gubana foundation.

He charged the foundation to be futuristic, saying, the future of the state lies in the hands of the youth.

Governor Buni reiterated his commitment to having improved education, enhanced healthcare delivery and robust economy for the state.

“We should bury all differences and work for the future and the good of a greater Yobe state” Gov. Buni said.

Members of the foundation said they are committed more than ever to make contributions to move the state forward.

The foundation congratulated Gov. Buni for the gaint strides recorded in education, healthcare delivery, commerce, road construction and pledged its support to government.

Youths under the umbrella of Borno All Progressive Congress (APC) youths vanguard have called on Governor Babagana Zulum to withdraw his unpleasant statement against them.

Speaking in an interview with Journalists at the NUJ Press Centre on Tuesday, the spokesman of the group, Ibrahim Hassan said ” we have worked hard to bring this government in power, only for the governor to say that it was youths vanguard (ECOMOG) and Mohammed Yusuf that created insecurity in the state. He is our father, we are appealing to him to retract that statement. We are not Miscreants or Boko Haram”.

” We have been a political youths right from NRC, UNCP, APP, ANPP and APC, we ever are responsible political youths and law abiding citizens. Yes, we agreed there are some bad eggs among us but he should not generalized that we are Miscreants. We are responsible party men and women” he added.

He said ” we are speaking on behalf of the remaining youths . we are APC that suffered a lot in the hands of insurgents,some of us were killed, mame, suffered a lot of physical and psychological trauma, We see no reason why we should be join with Boko Haram as the caused of insecurity or insurgency in the state”.

He stated they were not happy with the attitudes of the bad eggs among them, that was why they have been disciplining them, stressing that they were not happy with the statement the governor made by joining them with Boko Haram but as law abiding party members, they will continue to support the government and party at large.

Also collaborating, another member of the youth vanguard, Yakubu Dan Alhaji said ” we have been working hard for the victory of the party right from the inception of democratic government in 1999. only for him to reward us with this statement, we are appealing to him to withdraw this statement.

BOSG inaugurates Assessment needs committee on Education, health to improve service delivery

To ensure service delivery and consolidate on the success recorded in the last two years, the Borno state government has inaugurated an Assessment Needs committee on Education and Health to go round all schools and health facilities across the state to assess their needs and requirement with a view of addressing them.

Inaugurating the committees at the Multi purpose Hall of the Government House Maiduguri, on Monday the Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum said “let me bring to your kind notice that the deplorable of our education sector, our education system is not working very well. Yes we have built schools and health facilities but we must ensure qualified teachers and health workers, desks, drugs, instructional materials,laboratories doctors, boreholes accommodation are provided to the schools and health facilities for effective delivery”.

While commending the state committee on Universal Basic education, Governor Zulum said ” let me use this opportunity to commend the chairman and members of the SUBEB verification team for saving N420 million monthly from ghost workers. This money would hitherto consumed by few individuals at the detriment of our children and brothers “.

“There is need to go to our respective local government areas to come up with template for the government to know what we can do in the next 2 years to change our education and health sector In the next two years. We’re going to concentrate on service delivery in the next two years. The problem is not the money but how effectively do we plan”, the governor stated.

The Governor said the committees which are divided into Borno North, South and Central have now to the end of July 2021 to submit their reports to the government for implementation.

Governor Zulum while assuring teachers of salary increment said ” there is no way that you pay a teacher N15,000 to N20,000 monthly and expect him to perform stressing that the state government is going to come up with empowerment program of one year, where candidate are to teach in schools and health facilities and if their performance is satisfactory, they will be employed after one year.”

Zulum said ” we would not mind to bring in teachers and health workers from other state if we cannot have enough qualified ones here in the state”.

He further said the state government have closed to N3 billion in accessed fund in the account of Primary Health care and State Health insurance scheme and that the government is going to use it to train health workers, provide drugs and laboratory equipments among others.
