Fight against insurgency COAS elevates 5 soldiers for bravery outstanding performance

The Chief of Army Staff Lt General Tukur Buaratai has promoted five soldiers to the next ranks for distinguishing themselves in the fight against Boko Haram from various locations within the theater Operation Lafiya Dole.

The Chief of Army Staff made the announcement at the Nigerian Army West African Social Activities, (WASA) 2019 held at the Gwoza township’s stadium on Monday said “the holding of this event here in Gwoza is an indication that peace has return to the town”

the outgoing year is quite challenging, as well as rewarding. This so because the Nigerian Army is involved in numerous operations to secure the territorial integrity of Nigeria. in Operation Lafiya Dole, the change to the new concept of Super camps has been encouraging and yielding good results, General Buratai added.

The COAS said “Army in recognition of your successes is today honouring five soldiers of Operation Lafiya Dole, a member Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and a hunter with Medals Award for their bravery and outstanding performance in the theater”.

Also Speaking the Borno state Governor, Professor Zulum gave a cash donation of N200,000 each to 7 award recipients and promised to double the allawances of the member of CJTF and hunter and urge them to continue.

This activities of WASA will foster unity and cooperation between the Nigerian Military and the host communities and also showcase our diverse culture. This administration will not relent in supporting the troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole until peace is completely wiped out of the Northeast and Borno and country atlarge, ” the governor further stressed.

In his goodwill message, the chairman Senate committee on Army, Sen.Mohammed Ali Ndume said ” I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the Army to allow our people to go.back to Ashigashiya, Madubbe, Bitta, Ngoshe among other villages. So that our peoples to pick up the.0ieves of their lives “.

In his remarks, the House Committee on Army, Hon. Abdrrazsk Namdas said ” I appeal to the Chief of Army to organise more of such activities, as it wilil foster unity and cooperation between civilian military relations”.

He assured of the National Assembly support to end insurgency and called on the military tocontinue to work hard for full restoration of peace in the Northeast

In his welcome address. the Director Administration Army headquarters, Major General M Yusuf said ” the West Africa Social Activities ( WASA) is social activities aimed at bringing social and cultural activities to showcase the rich cultural heritage of our people and also foster Civil Military cooperation ”

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS),General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Arny Staff ( COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya,, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal, Isiaka Anao Chief of Naval , (CNS), Auwal Gambo Staff, Rear Admiral and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba Alkali were in Maiduguri to discuss security situation in the Northeast. in preparation to the President Muhammadu Buhari visit to Borno

On arrrival of the service Chiefs they proceeded straight to the headquarters Joint Tasks force Operation Hadin Kai where they went into closed door meeting that lasted for over 2 hours.

The President during the visit is expected to address the troops of Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari Cantonment

Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after the close door meeting, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor said assured Nigerians that the military is determined to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

The reason why we are here to re-strategize and address the problems facing the troops

Chief of Defence Staff led Service Chiefs and Inspector General of Police to headquarters Theatre Command ahead of President Buhari’s visit.

The CDS said their visit to the Theatre is to strategize and address the security problems facing the people of the Northeast and the entire country, adding that ,the greatest challenge before the military and other security agencies is how to restore peace in the entire region, and stressed the need for collaborative effort to end the crisis.

In welcome address, before the close door session,, the acting Theatre Commander Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai Major General Felix Omoigui said that the Theatre had recorded numerous success which led to economic activities to thrive in many liberated areas of the northeast.

The Chief of Defence Staff was accompanied on the visit by Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouq Yahaya, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Auwal Gambo, Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Service Headquarters.

Just in: Former special adviser to president Jonathan, Ali Gulak assassinated

Former special adviser to president Goodluck Jonathan on politics, Ali Gulak has reportedly been assassinated by unknown gunmen in Owerri, the capital of IMO State.

Confirming the sad incident to our reporter, a former classmate of the slain politician who is also a PDP stalwart in Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo said, “I just confirmed the sad and gruesome murder of my friend and classmate, the former special adviser political to president Goodluck Jonathan.”

According to Ardo, Gulak was assassinated in the night by yet to be identified gunmen in Owerri.

Gulak was a one time speaker of Adamawa State house of assembly and former special assistant to the vice president.

Army confirms death of COAS, General Attaihiru in Kaduna plane crash

The Nigerian Army has on Fruday confirmed the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Ibrahim Atahiru who died in a plane crash in Kaduna .

The Army in a statement signed by its Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said.

Army Confirms death of COAS, Lt. Gen Attahiru in Plane Crash,he said ” the Nigerian Army regrets to announce the passing away of its Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru . The sad event occurred following an air crash in Kaduna which also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew”

The statement said “the COAS was en-route Kaduna from Abuja on Friday, 21 May, 2021 when the unfortunate incident happened.”

“Details of the sad incident and burial arrangements will be communicated soon”, General yerima added.
