Gov, Buni Flags Off Construction Of 34 km Danchuwa-Jajere Road Project In Yobe

As part of efforts to improve the movement of goods and services, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has today Flag-off the construction of 34 kilometers Danchuwa-Jajere road project.
In his address, Governor Mai Mala Buni said that the construction of the Danchua to Jajere Road was part of fulfilling their pledge to the people of Jajere and other benefitting communities.
According to him, Jajere Danchuwa Road has been on the drawing Board since 1999 and various attempts have been made by previous administrations to construct the road but could not be executed because of various challenges.
“I am sure you would agree with me that the road we are here to witness the commencement of its construction when completed, would unveil and harness the rich agricultural, livestock, and other potentials that abound in this area, as well as improve socio-economic life in these communities”.
“When this project was advertised for bidding, several contractors indicated interest and vied for the award of the contract. I am happy to inform you that a reputable company, QUMECS Nig. Ltd. was carefully selected for the award of the construction of the 34km road project contract.
This project was awarded at the cost of Five Billion, Thirty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Eleven Naira, two kobo (N5,032,732, 211.02), and is expected to be completed within 18 months. The contractors are hereby directed to adhere to all specifications contained in the contractual agreement”.
The Governor added that “you may wish to recall that since the advent of this administration, road construction has been on the priority list of the government. Although the administration was confronted with the problems of insecurity, the Covid-19 lockdown, and the global recession which impacted negatively on both the national and state economy However, this administration bravely weathered the storm to construct over 30 township and inter-town road projects among other competing demands. Today, most of these roads have been completed while some few are at appreciable stages of completion”.
To facilitate the easy movement of goods and services for socio-economic development, and for our people to be in tune with changing times, the government constructed township roads and drainages in Buni Yadi, Damagum, Babbangida, jajimaji, Damaturu, Nguru, Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam, and Gashua among others.
Similarly, roads and drainages were constructed at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing, Damaturu, and at the General Hospitals in Gashua, Geidam, and Potiskum, as well as, Zanna Zakariya Housing Estate, Damaturu”.
The inter-town road projects, include the Damagum-Gubana, Nguru-Balanguwa, Balanguwa kumaganam and Chumbusko-Tagali. The state government further rehabilitated the Katarko- Goniri road and Siminti-Godowoli Bridge”.
I am pleased to inform you that the state government has recently awarded 25.3km of roads with corresponding concrete drainage of 50.6km in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, and Geidam”.
“Also awarded for construction are; the 22.5km Fika-Maluri,18km Bukarti-Toshia, 4km Nguru Highway to Karasuwa Galu, and the 18 km Jajimaji-karasuwa roads. The Bayamari to Yunusari, Geidam-Bukarti, and Kanama Junction to Yunusari have been awarded for rehabilitation. I have also directed the state Ministry of Works on the rehabilitation of all roads washed away by the floods last year.
I am equally delighted to inform this gathering that in fulfillment of our policy of providing one functional Primary Healthcare Center in each of the 178 political wards across the state, government is currently constructing a Primary Healthcare Center in Jajere which would be provided with a solar-powered borehole for use by the healthcare center and the community generally”.
Similarly, the state Government through the State Emergency Management Agency has provided skill acquisition training to 100 youths also from Jajere with a start-up capital of N150,000 each, while 500 farmers were supported with agricultural inputs. These would be sustained to promote self-reliance, food sufficiency, and security”.
“I enjoin the benefitting communities of this project and indeed, all other projects across the state to support and cooperate with the contractors to facilitate quality and timely completion of the projects. Your support of government policies and programmes will no doubt encourage the government to execute more projects to the benefit of our people”.
“Let me state that government would not compromise the quality and standard of work on this and all other projects. Our supervising engineers are hereby warned against raising certificates for payment of sub-standard jobs or, work not done on all projects executed by the state government. We must have value for our money”.
“Before I conclude this address, l want to thank the people of Jajere, and indeed, the good people of Yobe state for the peaceful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections”.
“As we go for the Governorship and State Assembly elections, l want to use this opportunity to once again call on the people of the state to conduct ourselves peacefully. We should vote wisely for a victory that would guarantee another four years of Consolidation, Continuity, and Innovation for a better Yobe state with a prosperous future”.
“It is now my pleasure to lay the foundation for the reconstruction of the Jajere to Danchua road”,
Earlier speaking on behalf of the contractors, Engr. Malam Kyari assured to complete the project in accordance with the specifications within the period of 18 months.
