Gov. Mai Mala Buni Signs 2023 Budget into Law

His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN has signed into law the 2023 Finance and Appropriation Bills passed by the Yobe State House of Assembly.
In a well attended ceremony at the WAWA Hall, Government House Damaturu Thursday, the governor thanked the Yobe State House of Assembly for their “meticulous scrutiny, objective assessment and speedy passage” of the budget.
Governor Buni said the 2023 budget which was tagged: “The Budget of Continuity, Consolidation and Economic Transformation” will focus on the completion of ongoing capital projects across the state.
The 2023 budget as submitted by the governor to the State House of Assembly has a total sum of N163,155,366,000.
The governor revealed, however, that in line with the oversight function, the State House of Assembly had made some adjustments thereby making “a slight decrease” the total budget size to N163,005,366,000.
The net allocation for capital projects, the governor said, stands at N75.1 billion while N87.8 billion stands as the net allocation for recurrent expenditure.
Governor Buni noted that the prompt passage of the 2023 budget by the state assembly indicates the cordial working relationship between the two arms of government in the state, assuring that the relationship will continue for the betterment of the people of the state.
“The state will complete all the ongoing projects such as Damaturu International Cargo Airport, Modern Markets and Potiskum Trailer Park to boost the state internally generated revenue.
“The state government will also initiate new projects to create more job opportunities to promote self-reliance among youths.
“I wish to appeal to all public office holders, civil servants, and contractors to continue to uphold values of transparency, accountability, due process and financial discipline in the Implementation of the 2023 budget,” the governor said.
H.E Gov. Buni has also launched the 2023 Armed Force Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Week with a state government donation of N15 million. The governor also made a personal donation of one million naira to the association.
In his speech on the sacrifices made by fallen heroes, the governor said, Yobe would remain grateful to the men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for the sacrifices to resolve conflicts and pave way for peace to prevail not only in our communities, our country but also different parts of the world, assuring that his administration will continue to support the Legion to better the lives of its members.
Several senior officials including members of the state executive council, state house of assembly, special advisers, local government chairmen as well as other well-meaning individuals made donations to the Legion.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Legion Yobe State Chapter, speaking of behalf of his members, thanked H.E Governor Buni for his support to the association.
