INEC set to conduct 2 state constituency bye -elections in Borno come Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) in Borno state has said that it has concluded all arrangements to conduct the Saturday 5th December, 2020 Bayo and Nganzai state Assembly bye elections in the state .

Briefing newsmen in his office on the preparations of the commission at the INEC office, Maiduguri on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim said” the commission had received nonsensitive and sensitive materials required for the election. The non sensitive materials had since been dispatched to the two local government Areas for distribution to the registration areas and polling units. As for the sensitive materials , that of Nganxai is under the custody of the CBN Maiduguri, while that of Bayo had been routed to Gombe to stay under the custody of the REC Gombe, the police and other critical stakeholders”.

The bye election was to fill in the vacant created by the passing way of the members representing Bayo state Constituency, Kate Hon Jauro Audi and that of Nganzai state constituency, Late Hon Wakil Bukar who both died after a brief illness.

Alhjji Ibrahim said a total of 710 ad-hoc officials were recruited to participate and that in the various categories of election duty and that in line with the commission’s policy of training, a 3 days train the trainer had been conducted for supervisory presiding officer before the postponment of the election due EndSARs protest and to further strengthen their previous experience, the trainer were given a day refresher training courses, adding that other categories of adhoc officials comprising of polling units officials have also received their training.”

He said a total of 7 political parties are participating in the Saturdays election which includes AA, ADP, ADC, APM, APC, APP and PDP.

” The Bayo state cinstituency has 59 polling units, with 8 voting points, 10 Registration Areas and a total of 48,319 registered voters with 47,742 having collected their PVC while Nganzai on the other hand had 85 polling units, with 2 voting points 12 Registration Areas and 34,871 registered voters with 32,027 bring in possession of their PVCs. Let me reiterate the position of the commission, only registered voters with PVC are eligible to vote”, the REC stressed.

Alhaji Ibrahim warned that all voters should strictly adhered to Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 and NCDC protocol of wearing face mask and physical distance, as the commission will not afford to play with the lives of anybody.

A member, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Joy Emordi, today defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Chairman APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni, formally received the senator in a brief ceremony in Abuja.

Sen. Emordi, said she was convinced that the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the APC.

She described the APC leadership as sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria that has plans for the future generation.

The legislator assured the party of her loyalty and her supporters to the party “l assure the party of my loyalty and support and to work for the success of the party.”

Sen. Emordi said “the APC led federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC.”

The Chairman CECPC Mai Mala Buni, expressed delight with the decision taken by the board member to contribute to the unity of the country.

“There is need for us to join hands for the political stability and national unity of our dear country” he said.

Governor Buni said the coming of Sen. Emordi and other prominent politicians from the South East into the APC will promote national unity.

“The South east is a strong political block and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will mo doubt add to national cohesion ” the Chairman added.

The All Progressive Congress ( APC) in Borno state has peacefully held its ward congresses, as Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state joined others members of his ward , Mafa Central ward of Mafa local government area of Borno state where they elected 27 member ward executives of the party inline with the ongoing ward, local government and state congresses of the party

Addressing the delegates befoe throwing the question, the chairman of the APC Congress committee in Borno state, who is also former Deputy Governor of Taraba state, Alhaji Uba Amadu said ” we are here in Mafa on behalf of APC national headquarters, Abuja to witnessed and monitor the ward congress of our party. We are here to ensure that the congress were conducted in accordance with our party constitution”.

” Our party constitution has allow that the congresses should be done in 3 ways that is, through direct and indirect process, as well as consensus, It could be recalled that the state statutory delegates had last Wednesday agreed that Borno state has opted for consensus.. Today we are here to ensure that what you agreed on is implemented to the later.” Alhaji Anadu added

Those unanimously affirmed through voice votes, as the 27 man Executive of the Mafa central ward of the Mafa local government area were, Alhaji Ali chori, as chairman, Alh Gado Ka’ana as Vice chairman, Alhaji Gada sarki as secretary, Alhaji Babagana Kachalla, treasurer among others executives of the ward.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Mafa, shorty after the exercise , Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state called on the APC members in the state to conduct themselves peacefully and be united for the progress of the party, state and the country at large..

“I want to use this opportunity to thank you for conducting yourselves peacefully, we want to also thank the national , state and local government committee for ensuring peaceful congress in Mafa central my ward”, Zulum.

He said ” I want to assure you that APC administration in Borno state under my leadership will continue to provide more dividends of democracy to our people. We are going to establish additional secondary school here in Mafa for our children to go to school, we are also going to train our youths across all wards of the local government, so that they will be engaged “.

As at the time of filing in this reports the ward congresses were going on simultaneously and peacefully in Biu and Hawul local government, as well as other wards across the state

APC Congress: Buni calls for peaceful exercise, warns against sabotage

As the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, warms up for its ward Congress on Saturday, the Chairman Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has enjoined party stakeholders and members to conduct the exercise peacefully.

In a statement signed Friday night by his Director-General on media and publicity, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni called on officials conducting the Congress to be fair and objective to all candidates contesting the election.

“As stakeholders of the party, we have a great responsibility to make the ward Congress in all the participating states successful.

“We should endeavour to place the party and members interest above personal interests,” Buni charged.

The chairman warned that the party would not hesitate to take decisive measures against anyone who deliberately sabotaged the Congress.

“We have come a long way repositioning the party, we have reconciled many groups and individuals, we must not allow personal interests in this election to divide us and draw us back,” he advised.

He expressed the commitment of the committee to entrench internal democracy and respect for the People’s choice.

Governor Buni further said adequate arrangements had been made by the party to conduct successful and acceptable congresses across the country.
