No fewer than five people were allegedly killed 16 others injured as members of the Boko Haram Insurgents and Islamic State of West African Province ( ISWAP) launched Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) on some committees in Maiduguri, few minutes before the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari who was on one day working visit to Borno state.

President who was on a day official visit to the state commissioned Aircraft hanger and Muhammad Indimi.Centre for Distance learning constructed by a business Mogul, Alhaji Muhammad Indimi at the Maiduguri International Airport and University of Maiduguri respectively and first ever Flyover bridge and Alhaji Tijjani Bolori memorial Day secondary school constructed by the government of Governor Babagana Zulum.

Delivering his speech at the University of Maiduguri, President Buhari assured to deal with the enemies of this country, as according to him, his administration has ordered for military hardwares, such as Armoured vehicles helicopters, aircraft to address the security challenges.

He said the security situation in Nigeria is better than the way he meet it in 2015, stressing that the people of the Northeast are in better position to confined it.

At least 5 persons have been killed and 16 others injured when five (5) rockets lunches were fire into Maiduguri metropolis by suspected to be the Islamic State of West Africa Province(ISWAP)

Our correspondent learnt that 4 were were confirmed killed in the Ngomari Ayaafe area, some metres to the Air force base and Maiduguri International Airport where the President landed.

An eye witnessed, , Sufia Buba who spoke to newsmen in an interview said the incident occurred about 10:50 am at least 30 minutes before the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari on a state visit to Maiduguri.

Buba said “We lost four persons here, as you could see the part of the explosion on the building, We lost two persons instantly and two others as a result of the explosion. It is a sad moment for us, we are grief and it is our prayers that Allah will accept their souls. “

“Aside from the victims, at least ten persons also sustained various degrees of injuries. We are confident that President Muhammadu Buhari would know that this person are still much around and he should remember that we voted him into power to end this insurgency but we are not satisfied with his performance. How can we continue like this, when lives of human has been reduced to that of chicken ? It is worrisome!”

Another witness account told our correspondent that he saw the bodies of two children, several over injured people being taken to hospital , as a result of the rocket propelled grenades, which landed in the Bulumkutu general area.

Our Correspondent reports that attack occurred in 3 different locations including Gomari Ayafe near the Air force Base, Ajilari Cross, and Bulunkutu.

Our correspondents gathered that the explosion killed one Fatima Hussain an 18 years old SS2 secondary student of liberty standard school at Ajilari Cross, two children injured, while six houses were destroyed by five RPGs f

Also confirming the incident, a hospital source on the emergency department in Umaru Shehu hospital also told journalists that 5 persons are currently responding to treatment. .

Borno Governor Canvases For improve Renumeration of Military Personnel

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has urged the Federal Government to increase the welfare and renumeration to the personnel of the Nigerian military for their sacrifices and the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other crimes in Nigeria.

Governor Zulum who made the call while speaking at the End of year Thanksgiving and launch in honour of the promotion of the GOC 7 Division to the rank of Major General, held at the 7 Division, headquarters, Maimalari cantonment, Maiduguri yesterday said personnel of the Nigerian Military deserved to be well remunerated for their sacrifices and commitment to keep united and secured Nation.

He said officers and personnel of the military and other security establishment deserve to be supported and encouraged and described their duties as tough ones, hence the need for not only support by states, for increase in their entitlements, when the economy permits such considerations by the Federal Government.

Governor Zulum while commending the role of the military in peace building role that led to the safe resettlement of about 18 communities across Borno., assured of his administration’s continued support to the military.

He said as peace gradually returns to the state, more communities will be safely resettled, while some major roads, such as Maiduguri-Damboa road would be opened for the safe use of motorists.

Governor Zulum congratulated the acting GOC and other recently promoted military officers, saying the people of Borno share the good moment and are happy with it .

Speaking at the occasion, the Theater Commander Northeast Operation Had in Kai, Major General, Christopher Musa thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Service Chiefs for approving the promotion of over 140 officers within the theater. This is the first time in the history of the theater that 3 Brigadier General were promoted to Major Generals, 1 AVM and 22 brigadier generals and from other officers.”.

He said ” these promotion need to be reciprocated by more efforts and commitment and those that were not promoted should do more to get promotion by the end of this year. We have put more efforts, this insurgency must end this year”.

In his remarks, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Major General, Abdukwahab Eyitayo said ” the, Borno Governor, Professor Babagana has been support the military without request, stressing that Zulum on many occasions, offers logistics and other support to the Nigerian Army, to enhance the fight against Boko Haram,.

“Severally without being prompted, you (Governor Zulum) come to our aide to support us (the Army) even logistics wise. Through your persistence and unrelenting cooperation and assistance, you (Governor Zulum) have one way or the other, turned the spirit of the soldiers into fighting machines” General Eyitayo said.

The GOC requested Governor Zulum to convey the gratitude of his officers to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff for identifying and promoting deserving soldiers involved with the fight against Boko Haram in Borno State, which he indicated, was highly encouraging.

The Borno state Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum has commended the military for their successes but not withstanding the military have to wake up from its slumber as members of Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP were mounting checkpoints, collecting taxes and conducted a weeding ceremony in Mandaragrau, town of Biu local government areas, where they came with over 300 motorcycles.

Governor Zulum said though relative is gradually returning to the Northeast but but the military need to redoubled their efforts by on the military to going after the members of the Islamic State IISWAP as they increasingly regrouping in the southern and Northern parts of the state.

Governor Babagana Zulum who made the call when members of the Senate Committee on Army paid him a courtesy call at the Government House Maiduguri on Wednesday said ” peace is gradually returning to the state. We have to commend the military for that but one thing is that they need to do more in nipping in bud the Increasing number of ISWAP in Southern Borno and some parts of the North “.

” I had a security reports the ISWAP mounting checkpoints and collecting taxes from people. They even recently had a weeding ceremony in Mabdaragrau, where many of them came on over 300 motorcycles. Our military have to so something “, he further lamented.

” Though the Boko Haram members are surrendering enmeshed. As i am talking to you, we have over 24,0000 surrendered Boko Haram out of which 5,000 are active fighters. For sustainable peace to be attained, we have to put more efforts to nip in bud the Increasing number of ISWAP, before they get out of hand. This group are more Intelligent, more sophisticated and have more funding”, Zulum added.

The Governor said ” I commended the military for their success but thus will not stop us from pointing out where there is problem. One issue with our military, once they recorded some success, they became relaxed. They have wake up from their slumber and deal decisively with the ISWAP”

He also called for increased capital expenditure to the Military as situation where recurrent expenditure is more than the capital will not mean well for the nation, and urged the National Assembly to do something and change the scenario.

Earlier, the Chairman Senate Committee on Army Senator Mohammed Ndume said they were in the state as part of oversight function to see things dir themselves .

While at the Theater Command Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Major General m, Christopher Musa said ” we thank you for the visit, on our part, the military, we will continue to do our Best to ensure that the insurgency is brought to an end in Borno state and the Northeast in General “.

Speaking after a closed door with the theater Commander and other principal officers of the command, that lasted for over an hour, Senator Ali dune said their visit to the theater is basically to see things for themselves and know their challenges., stressing that they deliberated on how to Increased funding to the Army and Armed forces in general.

” Nigeria is in a war situation and the Army and Armed Forces need to be well funded. We at the National Assembly will continue to canvassed for more funding until the Armed forces are well funded. The current theater Commander is doing well, we hope and pray that the insurgency will end under your leadership “, he added.

The committee were also at the headquarters of the Division of the Nigerian Army and were received by the GOC, Major General, Abdulwab Eyitayo and other principal officers of the Division, were they had a closed door meeting before proceeding to the 7 Division Hospital and Human services.
