MATAN seeks partnership with Dantata

Executives of the Kano State Chapter, of Market Traders Association of Nigeria, (MATAN), led by the Chairman, Comrade Abba Aminu Imam, paid an advocacy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Dantata Foods and Allied Products, Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata, at his office, located along Club road, Kano. The chairman, assisted by other members, issued a certificate to Alhaji Tajuddeen for his appointment as a patron of MATAN and decorated him accordingly

Parts of the objectives of the visit were to intimate Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata on the existence and activities of MATAN, Kano State Chapter. The visit was also meant to seeks his support, explain to him the general missions and visions of the association that can be implemented in the best interest of Kano traders for the enhancement of business activities.

Chairman of the association, Comrade Abba Aminu Imam, who spoke on behalf of executives, told the host that MATAN has appointed him as one of its patrons and member of the advisory council.

The chairman explained that the executives have unanimously approved such appointment in recognition of his patriotism and contributions towards the improvement of business activities both in Kano, Nigeria and the world at large.

The chairman further told Dantata that MATAN has unveiled an effective roadmap for improvement of the general welfare of Kano traders as well as overhaul of business activities.

He equally informed Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata that as a strategy to ensure successful and hitch-free implementation of the blueprint, it was designed and categorised on short, medium and long term procedures.

The chairman, equally, declared that the based on the content of the roadmap, MATAN has identified the primary predicaments confronting Kano traders, markets and general business activities and outlined possible solutions.

The chairman informed Alhaji Tajuddeen on the impending non-interest loan that Kano traders will benefit from the Sterling Bank, saying plans have reached an advanced stage for the disbursement of the loans to the eligible registered members.

He therefore, called on Alhaji Tajuddeen to use his wealth of experience, knowledge and business development strategies to offer advice to MATAN on how to move trading forward for the general benefits of Kano traders.

In his response, Alhaji Tajuddeen, expressed delight over the visit and found him worthy for the appointment as patron.

He tasked the executives to embark on vigorous registrations drive to woo more members into the association, saying high number of members is a vital device for the successful implementation of the set goals.

The patron also, promised to use his connections, both within Nigeria and globally to ensure rapid growth of the association.

Gov. Buni Charges Damaturu Market Contractors on Quality, Timeframe

Yobe state Governor, Mai Mala Buni in the company of his Deputy Idi Barde Gubana and other government functionaries today visited the Damaturu Ultra Modern Market to inspect the level of work.

The Governor charged the contractors to speedy up pace of work for timely completion of the project.

“You should work hard to meet up with the December dateline of completion.


“The more the delay, the more the possibility of attracting variation due to rising costs of building materials,” he said.

According to the Governor, the government would not tolerate compromising of standard.

“You should execute this project in accordance with the contractual agreements and specifications” Governor Buni warned.

Gov. Zulum Appoints Loskuri As New GM Monday Market

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the appointment of Mustapha Loskuri as new General Manager, Maiduguri Monday Market.

The Governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau announced the appointment in a statement released on Friday.

Loskuri, until his appointment was Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sharia and civil law, Mohammed Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies Maiduguri.

He is also a private legal practitioner at M. A Bulama and Co. Chambers.

Loskuri is taking over from Alh Modu Kolo Dunoma who served from 2016 to October 2021.

Governor Zulum, the statement said, congratulates the new General Manager, while expecting the highest level of commitment, dedication and integrity from him.

The Governor also thanked the outgoing General Manager, who had exhibited diligent commitments during his tenure. The Governor wish him well in his future endeavors.

Fraud: EFCC, MATAN partner to safeguard Kano traders

Kano zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) is to join forces with Market Traders Association of Nigeria, (MATAN), Kano chapter to safeguard the business community and investors from falling prey to fraudsters.

The Zonal Commander of EFCC, Faruk Dogon Daji dropped the hint when members of the association led by its Chairman Alhaji Abba Aminu Imam paid a courtesy visit to the commission’s office in Kano.

A statement issued by Media Aide of the association, Mustapha Isah Kwaru, hinted that, Dogon Daji, was represented at the event by the Deputy Zonal Commander, Mr. Micheal Nzekwe.

The statement explained that, the zonal commander told MATAN that, the commission is poised to ensure that traders are shielded from attracted by persons involved in fraudulent activities and other financial crimes.

He said the commission’s mandate is geared towards tackling all forms of frauds and other financial crimes in order to protect the trading and financial activities from being hijacked by criminals.

According to him, there is an urgent need for an active and unified collaboration between the association and EFCC in sanitizing trading activities from engulfing into the hands of fraudsters.

He described MATAN as a critically stakeholder in fight against financial crimes.

“Fighting corruption, fraud and financial crimes, is not restricted crusade to government institutions alone. Crucial stakeholders like traders association, are needed to join the vanguard and make it more successful”, the zonal commander said.

“As a commercial centre, Kano is overwhelmed with various financial related crimes. The agency could only realises fruitful results when the association participate actively to champion the success”, he further added

Thus, he noted, EFCC can easily control the ugly trend through support and partnership of market traders.

He implored the association to report any suspicious elements who might sneak into the market areas trying to defraud unsuspecting traders under the guise making quick profit through proxy investment

In his response, Comrade Imam, declared total support of MATAN in the fight against financial crimes.

Towards this end, the chairman advocated for the establishment of a joint working committee between MATAN and EFCC for strong synergy on how best to battle financial crimes related to business activities.

The Chairman, said the association will select some of its members who will work with EFFC operatives to form a strong alliance in the areas of intelligence and reformation sharing.

Alhaji Abba expressed the association’s unalloyed support and cooperation to make commercial activities very clean, unspicious and devoid of uncertainty.
