Potiskum MarketĀ Fire Victims Receives First-Line Support

In line with the directives of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Thursday provided the first line of support to the victims of the fire inferno that occurred in Potiskum Main Market.
The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr Mohammed Goje who was represented at the distribution of the first-line relief materials, further used the forum to re-commiserates with the victims and assured them of Governor Buniās continued support within available resources.
He said, āthis item was meant to support you and put food on the table of your families while you struggle through these trying moments to rebuild and bounce back to businessā.
Pointing out that SEMA will ensure that all avenues to support victims of disaster are utilised for the betterment of the victims.
Over 106 victims across 3 different trades (Yam Vendors, Bicycles Unit and Used Cloths Okrika Sellers) were seriously affected by the inferno.
Items distributed include Bags of Rice, Grains, Used Cloths, and Roofing Zinc among others.
He cautioned the marketers, community leaders, and household heads to be cautious during this windy season, ensure electric appliances are put off when not in use, firewood is extinguished fully when used and bush burning to be carefully monitored.
The SEMA also appreciated and commended the efforts of the LGA team, Traditional leaders and stakeholders for all the donations to cushion the hardship they are encountering, adding that disaster response is a collective responsibility.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the United Marketers Association Potiskum (UMAPO), Nasiru Alhaji Mato appreciated the untiring support of Governor Buni and SEMA to his members in situations of disasters.
āWe run short of words in thanking the Yobe State government for its continued support to our people, we are indeed overwhelmed and grateful for the support, and we will ensure judicious use of it,ā he said.
