By Madu Mohammed, Maiduguri
Former Presidential aspirant under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Umaru Muhammad Maizabura has called on the President Muhammad Buhari and the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency act to address the issue of insecurity in the North and country in general.
Alhaji Umaru Maizabura who made the call in an interview with journalists in Maiduguri on Friday said ‘” enough is enough President Buhati and the military should act immediately to address the problem of insecurity in Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara States and other parts of the country.”
MaiZanura who is also the National Chairman of the National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP) said “though Borno has been battling with Boko Haram insurgency for over a decade, President Buhari should act fast and address the insurgency and other insecurity in Kattsina, Kaduna. zamfara and sokoto, and other parts of the country, as people area been killed like chicken on daily basis. People of Nigeria elected you to address the security challenges, which is primary responsibility of every government”.
The former presidential aspirant also appealed to the Federal government to reopen schools. So that their children will go back to school and write senior school certificate Examinations SSCE and other examinations.
” I see no reason why our school can’t be reopened for our children to go back to school and write their examinations, so that they will further their education or look for jobs. I appealed to the federal government and the minister for education in particular to reopen the schools. People have been going to the markets, worship centres, why not school, they should reopen the school and ask the school authorities to ensure strict adherence to the COVID 19 prevention protocol”, he added.
He said ” not opening the school will cause more harm to our children and youths,, than the Corona virus itself, as many of our youths will engage in drugs abuse, theft, and other crimes, as the saying goes ” an idle man is a devils workshop’, we should do everything to safeguuard our children who are our future.”
On the crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress ( APC), Alhaji Maizabura advised President Buhari and the Acting chairman of the party to intervene and salvage the party, by shopping a credible man that will salvage the party from collapse, he said though he is not an APC member but as an elder statesman and a patriotic citizen, he believes that they work hard to bring somebody that act as a unifying factor in the party.
“Since the party is expected to zone the National chairmanship to the Northeast, I want to advice President Buhari and the national leaders of the party to consider and woe Engr Babagoni Machina to become the national chairman of the party. As I believe., he is the best candidate to bring unity among the party members, though I don’t think Machina will accept this huge task of rebuilding the party but I adviced the president to set up committee of party leaders to go him and persuade him in the interest of the party and the nation in general”, he added.

” Looking at the venue of the PDP congress at Ribadu Square where you see the former Vice president Atiku Abubakar, the former Governor Boni Haruna and the Current Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the venue tells you how collectively they are working to achieve a common goal.
“I also looked at the venue of the APC congress in Maiduguri where I saw Governor prof Zulum, Kashim Shettima, and Ali Modu Sheriff were seated together laughing as they engaged themselves in a chat, that tells you how serious they are about APC in Borno state even though PDP Borno only exists as a political party in INEC’s records.
“We love APC and we would have been more courageous, confident, and optimistic if we see this caliber of people at the venue of our APC congress in Adamawa state.
” Imagine seeing, Governor Nyako, Governor Bindow, Governor Bala James Ngilari, SGF Boss Mustapha, FCT minister Mohd Bello, Senator Mana, Senator Binta Masi Garba, Senator Barata, Senator Binani, Senator Cliff, senator Bello Tukur, senator Nyako, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, HE Marten Babale, Dr. Modi Halilu, HE Saad MC, Senator Zungina, Prof Mamman Tahir, Hon, Namdas sitting at Lamido cinema just to observe the exercise of this congress, the message would have been a clear one, APC supporters would’ve been boasted with high morales and will be ready at all the times to do the right thing.
“What do we have to say about the absence of these people at the venue of the APC’s congress? Even if all is wsendsit sends a wrong signal to our collective mission.
“Though there is a time to bring all the stakeholders ers on the desk, the present set of elected party leaders should rise beyond organizing local meetings, they must take it as a matter of priority to bring all these major stakeholders on board, we need Unity in this party, we need collaboration, we need synergy, we need to work as a team and above all we need to rescue power from the opposition.
“I congratulate the newly elected party leaders of our great party, it is my fervent hope that you will all discharge your responsibibyce with the provisions of the party constitute n and with thof e fear of God. Once more congratulations.” Said
