We Will Not be Distracted By 2023 Elections, Zulum in New year message

By Madu Mohammed, Maiduguri

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has said that he will not be distracted by all speculations about 2023 general elections.

Governor Babagana Zulum who. disclosed this in his New year message statement he personally issued on Saturday said ” it is important to close this information session by assuring you that we will not be distracted by all kinds of speculations about the 2023 elections. There are those who work for elections and there are those who work for legacies. Our administration is committed to giving our best by keeping the promises we made for the current mandate. The serious business of working for the people of Borno State is enough occupation for us, as I believe that there is time and space for everything.”

*Our dear people of Borno, at this important occasion of marking the beginning of the New Year, it is important to share information with you as part of our accountability to you. Regular clear communication provides an opportunity to let everyone know the direction of leadership so that citizens, partners and friends of Borno State would have a good understanding of what we have done, what we are doing and the direction we plan to take in the important responsibility of rebuilding our economy, rebuilding lives and livelihoods as a whole”, he stated.

While explaining why his administration is determined to the closure of IDP camps, Governor Zulum said as part of our strategy for strengthening resilience is the bold step that we took in closing down the internally displaced persons’ camps in Borno State as a whole. Although we have explained in details the reasons behind the action, for the sake of clarity, I will summarize as follows:”.

The Governor said ” we closed the IDP camps to clean up the places and give our people dignity as well as purpose. Living in IDP camp is not what we are used to, or what we like as a people. Therefore, we believe that a safe life of dignity is a right for all the citizens of Borno, and indeed Nigeria. The IDP camps were becoming a slum where all kinds of vices were happening including prostitution, drugs and thuggery in some cases. No responsible leadership will allow people to live an undignified life under its watch.”

He further explained that the idea of IDP camp was, and remains an interim measure to provide safety especially during the peak of the insurgency, stressing that, the camps were not meant to continue forever.

He said “the question of closure of the camp was not a matter of IF but when. Efficient managers would agree that there is no better time than now to get things done. As part of the closure, we continue to learn lessons, adapt our strategy and make necessary changes as we go along. The worst option would be to do nothing. We are not prepared to do nothing. Rather we are ready to do whatever it takes to restore the dignity of our people.”

” Keeping the camp open endlessly is not sustainable. This is because it becomes difficult to plan effectively for a dignified economic and social development of the people. The IDP camps would also eventually become too expensive to run with a possibility of causing far more harm than good. Take for example there are many potential difficulties one would expect if we chose the option of converting the camps to permanent structures for the people. If we succeed in building permanent structures, we need to ensure people have access to land, as many of our people are farmers.”, Governor Zulum added.

The message stated that “talking about infrastructure development, in 2022, we will continue to open up our rural communities by working on selected roads, and making lives better in our local government areas. I am convinced that better life in rural communities will translate to improvement in security and well-being of our people. What is good for the state capital is good for the remotest community of Borno.”

While appreciating President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government of Nigeria, international partners, the private sectors, traditional leaders and friends of Borno State for their support from the beginning, Government Zulum said I thank very sincerely, the military, the police, our vigilantes and local hunters who have been making progress in the area of security. We must recognize the support of our entire team and the dedication with which they have been working. Thank you very much indeed. In 2022, I challenge you to do more for Borno State.”

“As you enjoy the holiday period, please be vigilant, be safe and keep all hygiene protocols to protect yourselves and your family” Governor Zulum

Borno PDP alleges poor execution of projects by Gov Zulum, as APC ruling Party Chairman, Dalori denies PDP existence

By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Borno Chapter has alleged that most projects executed under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, especially the much talked about N4.3 billion Customs Flyover commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari last December 2021 have indicated cracks in some portions.

But reacting, the Borno State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon Ali Bukar Dalori described the allegation as untrue, baseless and mere saying, as there is no evidence of genuine PDP, as an opposition existing in Borno state.

According to a press statement signed and issued to Journalists by the opposition PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Amos Adziba alleged that, “it  received with dismay calls and messages from concerned citizens of Borno State expressing their concern for public safety and wastages of public funds on substandard projects by the Borno State Government over the years.

“The calls follows reports of impending collapse of the just concluded Customs fly-over bridge that gulped over four (4.3) Billion naira project, which was just commissioned by Mr. President last December, 2021.

“It is the responsibility of all citizens, which all our party leadership, members, and all citizens of Borno state to activate vigilance and demand for accountability from Governor Zulum’s led administration in the state, because vigilance and demand for good governance is the price we as citizens must pay to safeguard democracy and public safety.

“Our State have witnessed lots of losses of unquantifiable level over the last one decade and at this stage of recovery, while we still have numerous security challenges to face, we as a state cannot afford to waste such huge public finance on projects that are not well thought of, well designed and well executed within the global best practices standards.

“We therefore, condemn in total, such poor infrastructure development that aside wasting hug public funds, portend a serious danger to lives of our citizens plying the routes.” Said the PDP spokesman.

Meanwhile, the ruling APC Chairman, Hon Dalori however advised the factional group of PDP which Mr Amos Adziba paraded himself as Publicity Secretary to face their court cases filed by the genuine PDP Chairman in the state, Hon Mahdi Baderi, which is still pending.

He noted that there is no need to join issues with a factional opposition party claimed to be PDP leaders, but for the purpose of clarity, the ruling APC under his chairmanship deem it necessary to keep the general public abreast on campaign of calumny against Governor Zulum by Amos Adziba who claimed to be publicly Secretary of Zanna Gadama led -faction of the PDP in Borno state.

“Dalori said, instead of the Factional PDP led by Zanna Gadama as Chairman and Amos Adziba as Publicity secretary to face their court cases, it is unfortunate that this group have chose to create lies against the committed and transparent execution of people oriented projects under the leadership of governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

“Since inception of this present administration, Zulum has executed over 600 projects comprised of roads and drainage networks, hospitals, schools which have been attested to be in good standard by notable Engineers, and that is why even the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE, while in a state visit to Borno applaued Zulum’s projects after he inspected them recently.” Dalori said.

He added that the said Customs Flyover which was commissioned in December last year was adjudged to be the best not only in the north east sub region, but the country as a whole, considering the paucity of fund challenges faced by the present administration which is poised to end the over decades atrocities posed by insurgents. National Convention: Group commends Buni’s leadership urges CECPC to remain focus on reconciliation, party unity

By Yusuf Ali, Abuja

The APC Advancement Group (TAAG), has commended the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni for stability in APC urged the Caretaker Committee not to be distracted by the antics of some unpatriotic elements within the party and remained focused on achieving and sustaining true and lasting unity, peace and reconciliation across party ranks ahead of the national convention and the 2023 general elections.

The TAAG, in a statement issued in Abuja, said Governor Buni deserves commendation, though it is the prayers of every member of the APC to see the conduct of the much awaited national convention after the Ward, Local, and State Congresses, its a fact on ground that until the Caretaker Committee solve crisis in some states, the party cannot afford to go for a national convention with divided house.

The National Coordinator of the TAAG, Dr. Olusegun Adeleye in a statement titled “APC National Convention: The Need To Focus On Reconciliation and Party Unity” said while some members are pushing for the governing party to go for the national convention as planned, its important that the Governor Mai Mala Buni leadership to solve some of the crisis in the states before the convention, the focus remains achieving and sustaining the APC Caretaker Committee’s peace and reconciliation core mandate.

“It is important that the APC conducts its planned national convention to produce the party’s national leadership as a united house. Otherwise the main aim of constituting the CECPC following the dissolution of the former National Working Committee (NWC) will be defeated.

He said that the Governor Buni led Caretaker Committee has, in the course of carrying out its mandate, deployed a combination of true reconciliation, consultation and inclusiveness in achieving unity and cohesion to reposition the party adding that until the leadership solve the problems in some states that will pave way for the party to have a rancour-free national convention.

“As it is now, there are crisis in at least 14 state chapters of the party as at the last count, a fallout of the Congresses. The states include: Lagos, Bauchi, Imo, Zamfara, Enugu, Plateau, Kwara, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Kano and Taraba. The processes demand that as a party guided by its rule, all pending issues have to be resolved to pave way for the national convention.

Re: Suspension of APC National Convention

By Daily Hint Reporter, Abuja

The general public is advised to completely disregard fake news on the reported suspension of the planned National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) till June, as reported by some media outlets.

Dates for Party activities such as meetings, Primaries, Congresses, National Conventions are communicated through well-known official channels and not through ‘sources’.

The faceless authors and sponsors of fake news on APC activities, in this case the planned National Convention are simply bent on causing confusion and formenting crisis through misinformation. We should not enable them.

As a focus-driven, process-oriented political party, the APC Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni will not be distracted by self-serving antics of these sponsors of fake news. The APC Caretaker Committee is already embarking on nationwide consultations with Party stakeholders to prepare the ground for a rancour-free National Convention. To this end, the sub-committee on budgeting and other substructures will be set up in due course.

Finally, the Party notes and appreciates the continued support of well-meaning members and leaders as the APC Caretaker Committee undertakes the immediate task of addressing contestations within the Party, litigations, fallouts of recently-conducted Congresses and generally reposition the Party ahead of the National Convention.

Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe Ph.D
