YBSG, Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation to Strengthen Partnership in Healthcare, Agriculture

The Yobe State Government and the Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation have pledged to improve their collaboration in primary healthcare, especially in the area of Routine Immunization (RI) as the state makes progress as the “most improved state in RI”.

The commitment to build on the partnership between the sides follows a visit that Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation’s Deputy Country Director Caroline Jehu-Appiah paid to Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja today.

Mrs. Jehu-Appiah was accompanied by the Foundation’s Lead on Immunization, Mr. Yusuf Yusufari and the Lead on Agriculture, Dr. Audu Grema.

Governor Buni, who appreciates the effort of the Foundation to end the occurrence of the Wild Polio Virus in the country and tackle other child-killer diseases, said that the Yobe State Government will meet all its counterpart funding obligations and would double down on its collaboration to ensure that primary healthcare delivery is strengthened and expanded.

“In my inaugural address, I have reiterated my desire to prioritize healthcare, specifically primary health care and I have a vision to establish a functional PHC in all of the176 wards in the state. Our administration is an administration of continuity and consolidation; therefore, we are going to do even more to triple or quadruple the extent of our collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation”, the governor said.

Governor Buni also said that the state government is ready to partner with the Foundation in the area of agricultural development and food production.

“Agriculture is a force-multiplier. It is an area that has the greatest prospect for improving our economy and creating jobs for our people. Our intention is to use agriculture to empower our youths by helping them to cultivate and become self-reliant”, the governor said.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Deputy Country Director, on her part, expressed appreciation for the commitment that Yobe has shown in improving Routine Immunization.

Mrs. Jehu-Appiah asked that the governor approves more funds for local polio campaigns and ginger local government chairmen and traditional and community leaders to continue to mobilise their communities on behalf of a strong primary healthcare system.

The Foundation’s Lead on Agriculture, Dr. Audu Grema said that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is keen to partner Yobe in agriculture, especially in rice production.

Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has commiserated with the families of the victims of the Gujba attack.

The Governor described the victims as heroes who laid their lives in defence of their country.

“The government and people of Yobe state commiserate with the families of the brave securitymen who lost their lives in the attack.

“The sacrifice made by these brave heroes shall never be in vain” assured.

” Government will not be deterred by such attacks from executing programmes and policies in the interest of the people of the state” he said.

The governor assured his administration’s commitment to always work together with security agencies to safeguard lives and property of the citizenry.

Gov. Buni commiserates with Emir of Fika over Fire Outburst

His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, The Executive Governor of Yobe state, has on Monday commiserated with the Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe state Council of chiefs, Alh. Muhammadu Abbali ibn Muhammadu Idrisa, over unfortunate fire incident at the Palace.

Governor Buni described the fire inferno that consumed a chamber at the Palace as a great loss to the emir, the Emirate and the state.

“l am deeply saddened by the sad news of the fire incident today at the palace of His Highness, the Emir of Fika.

“However, we are all consoled and give thanks to Almighty Allah that no life was lost nor injuries recorded” he said.

The governor asked the Emir to have faith that this was destined to happen at this moment and prayed that it never happen again.

Democracy Day: Borno NUJ applauds Governor Zulum for executing 556 projects in 741 days

The Borno state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ had applauded the Borno State Government under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for executing 556 projects within 741 days in office.

The NUJ in a statement jointly signed by its chairman Bulama Talba and it’s Secretary, Mohammed Ibrahim said ‘”indeed this feat has no doubt justified the NUJ award in 2019 conferred on Governor Zulum as the Most Promising First Time Governor in the Country as well as other awards and recognitions within and outside Borno State due to the numerous peoples oriented projects on the ground.”

“As the Government and citizens celebrate democracy day the Union salutes their courage and resilience as well as never dying spirit which has gradually contributed to the restoration of peace in more communities with sustained programmes and prayers that should be further complemented with useful information to security operatives whom we expect to deal a final blow to end the insurgency bedevilling our dear state, the union stated.

The NUJ said “we appeal to the State Government to see reason to improve the processes of resettlement of IDPs to their original communities as well as the review the cases of local government civil servants affected by the ongoing verification by re-engaging them.”

The statement further said “We remind the public to be rest assured that all of the working journalists in Borno State remain ever dedicated to continuously push our pen to promote the interests and image of the State towards the full revival of its glory by the will of the Almighty Allah, Happy democracy day.’,
